Waymo Launches Premier Membership Program for Frequent Riders

Waymo announced the launch of Waymo Premier, a new invite-only membership program designed for its most frequent riders across San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Priced at $29.99 per month, the program offers priority pickups, cash-back rewards, early access to new city expansions, and flexible cancellation policies.

The move marks a significant step in Waymo's evolution from a ride-hailing service to a platform with tiered customer offerings, as the Alphabet-owned company continues to scale its fully autonomous fleet to more cities worldwide.

What Waymo Premier Includes

Waymo Premier members gain access to five key benefits. Priority Pickups shorten wait times by matching Premier members ahead of standard riders during peak hours. Ride Savings automatically earn 10% Waymo Cash back on every trip, with an elevated earn rate during busy periods. Early Access lets members be among the first to use Waymo when it launches in new cities. Flexible Cancellations provide peace of mind with up to five free cancellations per month. Finally, Premier benefits follow members across any city where Waymo is available.

Designed for Daily Commuters

In announcing the program, Waymo emphasized that Premier was built around feedback from its most loyal riders — people who rely on the service for daily commutes, errands, and regular transportation needs. "I never got my driver's license, and I rely on Waymo to commute to an office every day," said Sarah Paige Roland, a Waymo rider in Phoenix. "I get privacy, time back, a safe ride, and I'm not obligated to talk to someone that I don't want to talk to. Adding cash back and priority pickups on top of that makes Premier a no-brainer."

"Whether you're a daily commuter or a weekend explorer, Waymo Premier is our way of helping you get the most out of every ride." — The Waymo Team

Expansion and Availability

Waymo Premier is initially being offered to select riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix — the three cities where Waymo has its most mature operations. The company plans to scale the program to offer membership to riders in more cities where the Waymo app is available in the future. Interested riders can keep an eye on their Waymo app for an exclusive invitation.

The launch comes as autonomous ride-hailing competition intensifies. Cruise, Zoox, and others are racing to expand their own commercial operations, while traditional ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft are investing heavily in autonomous vehicle partnerships. Waymo's move to a subscription model suggests the company sees loyalty and recurring revenue as key differentiators in a market where the underlying technology is increasingly becoming table stakes.
